Insurer and Insured Individuals
The insurer is the Health Insurance Society
Individuals or groups that conduct business, such as companies, are referred to as "business operators," but in the case of health insurance, the party that receives payment of insurance premiums, pays insurance benefits, and conducts other health insurance business is referred to as the "insurer."
In our case, we have established our own Health Insurance Society, so the Health Insurance Society is the insurer.
Overview of an Insured Person
An “insured person” refers to the person employed by the employer enrolled in the health insurance society who pays insurance premiums. Anyone employed by the employer eligible for health insurance becomes a mandatory insured person of the health insurance society where the employer is enrolled, except part-time employees and others who are working reduced hours.
However, part-time employees and others who are working reduced hours also become "insured persons" if they meet any of the following conditions.
- When the number of scheduled daily working hours, weekly working hours or monthly working days is three-quarters or more of that of full-time employees
- If they meet all the following five conditions
- The short-time employee works at least 20 hours per week
- The short-time employee earns at least 88,000 yen a month
- The short-time employee is expected to be at the company for at least two months
- The short-time employee is not a student
- The short-time employee works at a company with at least 51 employees, or a company with 50 employees or less which has a health insurance agreement between labor and management
